Artist Statement
Don Surphlis is a nature photographer and conservationist living on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies. For 20 years Don has pursued his passion for photography a means of telling the timely stories of hope and conservation in a world that is increasingly hostile to wildlife. During this time, Don has been fortunate to photograph many unique, fragile and important places in Canada and the savannahs of East Africa. The body of work reflects a profound engagement with the natural world, particularly the majestic creatures that inhabit it. Through a focus on wildlife, the artist conveys a deep respect for the environment and its inhabitants, inviting viewers to reflect on the beauty and fragility of these ecosystems.
